Gary Lineker has quipped how football didn't "exist" before the Premier League began after Mohamed Salah reached another goalscoring milestone.

Salah scored both goals in Liverpool's 2-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday, as the Egyptian reached the 20-goal milestone for a Premier League season for the fifth time. Ex-striker Lineker – who scored 20 goals or more in five English top-flight seasons, but all before the Premier League was formed in 1992 – joked, "If only football existed in my day" when seeing Salah's stats.

Lineker said on Match of the Day: "That's his fifth season with 20 goals or more. Look at who is at the top of that… Alan Shearer. But he took 14 seasons, Mo [Salah] only did it in eight. God, if only football had existed back in my day!"

Salah is playing some of the best football of his career as he helps Liverpool seemingly march towards another Premier League title. Despite his excellent form, this may be his last season for the Reds as he is yet to sign a new deal with just a few months of his contract remaining.
